Ferry from Aberdeen to Shetland

North link ferries www.northlinkferries.co.uk operate daily sailing between Aberdeen and Lerwick in Shetland. Twice a week both North and Southbound the service calls at Kirkwall in Orkney. The service leaves at either 1700 or 1900 arriving at either 0700 or 0800. There are 2 or 4 berth Cabins ( recommended), Sleeping pods and reclining chairs available for this overnight journey. Advance booking is recommended to secure cabin accomodation.

Ferries from Scottish mainland to Orkney

As well as the normally twice weekly sailings from Aberdeen, Northink Ferries operate sailings daily between Scrabster on the North coast of the Scottish mainland to Stromness in Orkney, travel time approx. 90 minutes. For more information,please check their website at www.northlinkferries.co.uk.

Pentland ferries offer a shorter crossing (1 hour) from Gills bay to St Margarets hope in Orkney. They have several sailings each day. Contact www.pentlandferries.co.uk for more information.

Flights to Shetland and Orkney

Loganair now the largest UK domestic carrier, is the sole operator on the route. They operate daily flights to Orkney and Shetland from a number of UK and Norwegian airports. Loganair have code share arrangements with a number of International carriers including: British Airways, Wideroe and KLM.

Sumburgh Airport is an approx 30 minute taxi ride from either Lerwick or Scalloway. A scheduled bus service does operate but it runs to a timetable which does not always link in with flights. An app is available which gives details of all internal flights, buses and ferries within Shetland. Search for 'Shetland travel information'

The ferry terminal at Holmsgarth in Lerwick is only a short taxi or bus ride away from the pontoons at Victoria pier. For Scalloway its about a 10-15 minute Taxi ride or 25 minute bus journey to the Scalloway boating club pontoon.

Arriving in Kirkwall airport its about a 10 minute taxi ride or 15 minute bus journey to Kirkwall marina. From Stromness ferry terminal its 20-25 minutes by taxi to Kirkwall marina or approx 30 minutes by bus to Kirkwall bus station, then a walk or short taxi ride to the Kirkwall marina.

We strongly recommend taking out adequate travel insurance.
